Doc, The big thing I see is one of the planet's largest source of product marrying one of the planet's biggest retailers. Other things are very interesting, but when you get a wife the entire landscape changes. And unlike the arguements regarding linkups in the PC boxmaker business, AMZN can't say FO to Bertie, cause there is no other source for the books they have.

Regards, IS

There are many ways to spin this deal. Here are a few for starters.

--Bertelsmann and Barnes & Noble teaming up is definitely bad for AMZN.

--Bertelsmann getting 50% of BKS.com for $200 million implies a total value of $400 million for the company. Is AMZN really worth 15 times BKS.com? I don't think so.

--BKS.com wasn't going to raise $200 million in cash from an IPO. More cash the better for killing AMZN.

--Would Bertelsmann take such a large stake in BKS.com if it wasn't making serious inroads against AMZN? I don't think so.

I'll let someone like William put a positive spin on this announcement. I'm sure he'll find one.
