The earnings are "real" but it can be argued that they are not that impressive.

AMD had $10 million interest income on cash that they borrowed which offset $21 million in interest expenses on the borrowed money.

Realistically, they earned 1 million dollars or a penny per share.

Next week, we will be able to compare that 1 million profit with Intel's quarterly profit - to compare apples to apples.

It appears so.

Intel is running at near capacity and my guess is that they may be supply constrained.

AMD appears to be demand constrained - that is, they can now produce more than they can sell - so they need to get more customers.
