I work for an company with an internet presence. We are looking to upgrade our network infrastructure, guess which company's products we are going to buy...

We are also looking at new isps. We met with a new company that has a very interesting alternative to the traditional backbone providers (BBN, UUNET, etc.). Their offering could potentially eliminate a lot of the traffic between the major public switches connecting the large backbones. Guess who's routers they use.... And they are in major growth mode.

Fact is, CSCO is de facto the company where to buy this equipment. CSCO is susceptible to a downturn in demand, don't get me wrong. But long term, this baby will be ok.

Excellent post Miguel. There's nothing wrong with competition
and there's enough international business to go around for a
long time. Why all the concern about Lucent and other wanna
be's?

Let's get real here. Cisco has been #1 ever since its
founding; they're not about to lose that designation anytime
soon if ever. Yes the stock is in a correction phase like all
other tech issues. But who can honestly say it won't be making
new highs when it regains its upward momentum?
