Try taking sulphur pills for chiggers. It drives them away. I used to get'em all the time as a kid. The remedy was 1 sulphur pill. (Sorry, I don't remember Mg's. I was a kid.) Never heard of cutting and turpentine though, especially in the warm areas that they like to settle. Ouch. Don't even want to think about it.
