Please keep us informed of any developments in the Korean economy that you may learn about. Paul, here's a tidbit. I met one of my cousins whom I haven't seen for ten years, and his name is Seo-Ho (pronounced so-ho). He's 28 years old and currently a freelance PC games programmer. We talked a lot about software and hardware. At one point, he asked me about the Intel i740. It seems like he loves his i740 graphics accelerator. (I forgot which brand it was.) When I asked him about Voodoo2, the 3-D accelerator that I had and (until recently) the leader in the 3-D market, he said that the Voodoo2 is an excellent card, but too expensive. That took me by surprise, especially since Seo-Ho drives a nice car (Hyundai Tiberon, which is considered nice there) with that $1000+ stereo that looks like a GPS system. Later, I told him about the upcoming Whitney chipset, which he didn't know about before. He seemed pretty impressed that Whitney will integrate the i740 (or better) into the chipset to bring down the overall cost. My point? I realize just how critical the sub-$1000 computer is for Korea, which is why Korean companies will be pushing PC's at lower price points, from $800 to below that. South Korea is entering the digital age with a bang, even in these IMF days. One out of every two people there have a cell phone, and 99% of them are digital! The phones worked everywhere, even in the rural areas. That's no small feat considering that Korea is all mountains. So if digital cell phones can take off that quickly, so can el-cheapo computers. And with a population of 40 million in S.Korea alone, that's no small market. (Perhaps Intel, AMD, and every other American company should also push for reunification just to expand the Korean market. This would be possible if it weren't for that late imbecile called Kim Il-Sung and his son.) As for Intel vs. AMD, I didn't find any AMD computers there, but then again I didn't have time to search. And yes, the Bunny People commercials also appeared on Korean TV. Tenchusatsu
