Here's the list of some AMD & MPEG patents...

Yes, instructions for MPEG decode (there should also be a primitive Motion Estimation instruction , like on the DEC Alpha, but I don't see it), plus some strange patents that appear to be the result of smoking grass (certainly outside the league of a CPU
clone company)...

There is a problem with the IBM search engine. Just use "Advanced Micro" for the assignee, rather than the full name.

List:

Obvious average with +1 rounding seed instruction (which is now part of MMX2 and KNI. Maybe the CL450 predated this one..):
patents.ibm.com

Obvious semantic change to reference frame selection:
patents.ibm.com

Trick to short cut decoding of B picture:
patents.ibm.com

buffer management:
patents.ibm.com

complexity helper stream (I like this one -- clever):
patents.ibm.com

DMA:
patents.ibm.com

I would not call a big fish in a little pond: "God." Other big fishes watch the pond, but don't go around lobbing depth charges..

Right on. In many ways AMD seems to have more of a clue than Cyrix (which has Mediamatics in-house).
