I never thought I'd see this situation arising. I've never met a Korean that stayed a second longer in the army than they had to.

Well, one of my closest cousins in in the Korean Air Force, and this is his third year. He only needed to serve two years, but he's an officer now, part of an elite corps, and once again, it's a secure job. (No, he doesn't fly.)

Unfortunately, many of my friends that are graduating or just graduated have been devastated by the turmoil. SO many that had jobs secured well before grad have found themselves working from home(not) for free. All on a "we'll call you when we get busy again" basis. Others that graduate this year have also found extremely tough job prospects.

That stinks. On the other hand, we Koreans are very inclined to become entrepreneurs. Heck, I just found out that entrepreneurship runs in my family, which might be a foretelling of my long-term future. Hopefully those who found themselves without the job opportunities of Bigtime Corporations (Hyundai, Lotte, Daewoo, etc.) will find the financial backing to start new businesses or whatever.

In the meantime, I'll be praying for Korea.
