I almost missed this post. Thank you. The drugs ruined entire communities....hundreds of thousands of people are hooked. It was such a crime and yet nothing was done. Conservatives didn't care. BUT conservatives get all worked up about a blow job. What priorities.

Reagan's support for the Contra's was an ideological obsession, not a response to a security threat.

Ahh, the grand old liberal practice of assigning base motives to the hated Reagan. How I miss it. Maybe you remember Jeanne Kirkpatrick, Scoop Jackson supporter and 1976 platform writer for the Democratic Party. She was one of a number of Democratic cold war hawks that Reagan employed in his administration. She wrote a fascinating book Dictatorships and Double Standards elaborating on the leftist practice of apologizing for, or being absolutely silent about, gross human rights violations committed by left-wing regimes, while at the same time condemning similar practices in rightist dictatorships. "Blame America first" was how she pithily expressed it. Too bad folks like her abandoned the Democrat Party to the Clintonoids. Well, now that Clinton is sacrificing the Democratic Party in his attempt to evade justice, maybe something better will rise phoenix-like from the ashes. We can only hope.
