The big advantage to bullion coins is that they are quite readily identifiable, easily sold, and accepted. Imagine walking into your local grocery store carrying a gold bar to buy a six pack - what do you do, shave off a few grains? Gold bars can be easily counterfited, coins not so easily (that's why they made coins in the first place rather than caryy around chunks of gold. And they are available in all denominations (1oz, 1/2oz, 1/4oz, 1/10oz)

BTW - the US Mint just started mailing thier yearly "Holiday Catalog" - do NOT buy investment stuff from them!

Also - another intriguing new bullion coin is the 1oz Platinum coin. Low mintages (meaning low demand) but a pretty coin based on an even more "noble" metal? Around $600/oz?
