I don't see how you can see Fluffy. Are you sure that isn't some other cat? If Fluffy doesn't show up for his 6 o'clock feeding soon I am going to assume he is dead. After all, how long can a cat go without food?

If I assume he is dead is he as good as dead? Is assuming he is dead the same thing as knowing he is dead? On the other hand he might just as well be assumed alive, like the soldiers who keep turning up in jungles, when they should know better to remain missing and debt free.

If I never see dear old Fluffy I will never know if I should hold a service or not.

He could be both alive and dead at the same time couldn't he? As long as I never see him only the cat dish and the hairballs he could be a living memory ie a cat in evidence sometimes and sometimes not.
