Hyde has given the Democrats full subpoena power, equal with his. IMO this is a magnanimous gesture of bi-partisanship, exceeding even Nixon's impeachment proceedings.

Well, you are correct that my impression of things is pretty much based on the Watergate Hearings; I think that was the summer of '73. It seemed to me that by then most everyone was bent over what was coming out. The thing about those days was that every few weeks we found out something new and worse. There was a long list of things that were the problem; you had the payoff of the plumbers, you had that crazy wife of the AG, it was just one thing after another. With Clinton it seems to be a fairly simple set of things. But getting to your point; I don't remember what the atmosphere was at the start of things; I just remember the hearings.
