Patriot Scientific Digital Modems
Gain ETSI and CE Certification

Efforts to Market Products On Global Basis Accelerated

SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 7, 1998--Patriot Scientific Corporation (OTC:PTSC -
news) today announced that its high-speed digital modems have received certification from the European Telephone Standards Institute (ETSI).

They have also received the CE mark, Europe's equivalent to the Underwriters' Laboratory (UL) mark in the America.

''We are very excited about these positive developments for our Communications Division's digital interface cards,'' said Patriot's president and CEO, Jim Lunney. ''With ETSI and CE certification
we fully intend to aggressively pursue the developing telecommunications global marketplace.''

The mission of the European Telecommunications Standards Institute is to determine and produce telecommunications standards. From its headquarters in Southern France, ETSI staff members coordinate these activities, working closely with nearly 500 manufacturers from 34 countries.

''With the certification, we can now market our telecommunications products throughout Europe and much of Asia. The domestic market currently represents only half the world market, so we have doubled our potential by getting these important affirmations of our technology,'' stated Lunney.

Patriot's Communications Products Division is developing a range of high performance ISDN products, including Primary Rate Interface (PRI) cards and Basic Rate Interface (BRI) Terminal Adapters. The Communications Division product line also includes ISA and VME Bus Serial Communications cards as well as a range of products for legacy technologies.

Founded in 1987, Patriot Scientific Corporation designs, manufactures and markets: the PSC1000, based on the patented ShBoom technology, a 32-bit microprocessor targeted at Java(TM) and Internet appliances as well as the traditional embedded systems markets; high-performance ISDN Basic Rate and Primary Rate products for digital communications; and ground-penetrating radar and ionized gas antenna technologies.
