with AMD reporting a good quarter...MOT & MU too...and of course INTC & DELL talking about a good quarter...

my sense is that the boxmakers will do extra good, if money comes out of the nets...

PC sales have to be good, if chips are selling strong...

CPQ-IBM- etc could do well if the market plays ball...

also with additional countries cutting rates we should see a nice rally coming...

Here's the first of 2 reports just out...LOOKING GOOD for the next Q

AMD Sees A Profit In Q4, PC Market Strong

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Advanced Micro Devices Inc (AMD - news) said that it expects to
report a profit in the fourth quarter, due to the strong sales of its K6 family of processors, amid a strong
PC market.

Earlier AMD reported a slight third quarter profit of $0.01 a share, better than some analysts
expectations. Some on Wall Street had been expecting AMD to report a loss.

AMD told analysts on a conference call that its goal of shipping 4.5 million K6 processor units in the
fourth quarter is ''do-able'' and that manufacturing capacity is not an issue.

AMD said it also plans to launch a faster version of the K6- 2 processor, at a speed of 400 megahertz,
next quarter and plans to ship ''hundreds of thousands'' of units.

The company, based in Sunnyvale, Calif., also said that it plans to step up in research and development
spending in the fourth quarter, by about $20-$25 million, related to its joint venture with Motorola Inc.
(MOT - news) for developing copper manufacturing process technology.

AMD said that the rest of its non-microprocessor businesses, such as flash memory, were flat on a
sequential basis, and that its record bookings of its K6 family of processors enabled it to report a profit.

''We see the PC market as pretty strong,'' AMD chairman W.J. Sanders III told analysts on a
conference call, adding that the company has seen strong demand in the U.S., Europe and Asia.

''The worst is behind us,'' Sanders said, when asked about the general semiconductor industry slump.
''Although we don't see a general upturn, I don't think we are in for a worse environment.''

Intel Unveils Faster Xeon Chips, Cuts Prices

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (Reuters) - Intel Corp. (INTC - news), the world's largest maker of
semiconductors, said it is now shipping the fastest version of its Pentium II Xeon processor targeted to
the computer server and workstation market.

Intel said the Pentium II Xeon, running at speeds of 450 megahertz, will be used in systems that run
two processors, known as dual processor, or two-way, workstations and servers.

Computer makers such as Compaq Computer Corp. (CPQ - news), Dell Computer Corp. (DELL -
news), Gateway Inc., Hewlett-Packard Co. (HWP - news), International Business Machines Corp.
(IBM - news) and many others plan to ship systems with the Xeon 450 megahertz later this month,
Intel said.

The Pentium II Xeon running at 450 megahertz with 512 kilobytes of level two cache memory, costs
$824 in quantities of 1,000 units. Intel said that the Pentium II Xeon running at 450 megahertz for
servers with four processors, called four-way servers, will be available in early 1999.

The Pentium II Xeon processor was introduced at the end of June, running at speeds of 400
megahertz.

At the same time, Intel cut prices on the older Xeon processors. The price of the 400 megahertz Xeon
with 512K of cache memory is now $824, in quantities of 1,000, from $1,124 previously. Intel cut the
price on its 400 megahertz Xeon with one megabyte of cache memory to $2,675, down from $2,836.
