Anyway, yes you are right about your guess as to how the way the game works, and it is pulled off through the discount terms given the merchants. It's a key factor in the negotiations. What is surprising about DoJ action now, is that this is no secret - ever see one of those VISA commercials flaunting the fact that some sexy merchant doesn't accept AmEx? Bet VISA is having second thoughts about how wise those were, and we probably won't see too many of 'em anymore. -g-

I also agree with everything else you noted. I have about a quarter mill available on my credit cards - all would be unsecured debt. And if I decided to open the 10's of envelopes for new offers I get every week, I'm sure I could run it up to over a million bucks of available credit. If I were a crook, sure would beat working. As many Nigerians have Discovered. -g-
