John, You may be mistaken about Chris Matthews being a speechwriter for Carter---though I wouldn't put it past both of them. Carter being one of the biggest phonies in politics, and Matthews one of the biggest blowhards in pundintry. It is said that when Carter was first introduced to Leonid Brezhnev, the poor guy was visibly quaking with fear; he probably envisioned where ol' Leonid came from and what he must have had to do to get from there to where he was. No, not a folksy down home boy was Leonid, no sir. No. I think Matthews was connected with Tip O'N. Now that I find rather unlikely. The Tip being one of the better Speakers. L.
