Could the weakness in the dollar have anything to do with the drop? Possibly there were some big Japanese investors in the stock. The yen had a big rise today:

"I can surmise three reasons for why insiders are selling

1) Options recently vested and/or
2) Bad news coming and/or
3) An announcement of a takeover or purchase. Usually there is a lock up period after an acquisition or, of course, after being taken over."

How about the most obvious reason of all:

4)The stock was at highs that have not been seen for a year and it was a good time to sell and lock in some profits in a nervous market. I am sure that many long-term longs also sold off some of their position.

IA, The spike to 51 3/8 was probably a short-covering rally, thus the rally stalled when all the shorts who wanted to, had covered. I recall that the short position in August was at a high for the year.

What could cause shorts to cover?
A. The preception that Windows CE is not as great a threat as it was once thought to be.
B. The arrival of I2O.
C. Jerry Fiddler's photo in Wired magazine
D. All of the above.

What could cause short sellers to lay on the stock now?
A bear market.
