Russ, I'm not so sure the NYSE specialists do that, although I suppose they could if they were crazy; the daq MM's receive that gift as part of making a market and they do it with abandon. For reasons you well know.

as well as Cap'n Jim's references to the fact that specialists short sales could easily be reported in a short time frame but aren't.

I don't know for sure but I would be surprised if specialists are not still able to short anytime they want while we have to do so on an uptick.
