rudedog here are some comments from DLJ that I found on the Yahoo Board. Seems HDI has been perceived as a safe haven, as its been up the last 2 days. I have only a few shares. El

DLJ said today, stock come under pressure based on concerns
regarding IT spending slowdown and analysts calls that the company
was stuffing the channel in Q3. They do not believe the company is
experiencing any revenue slowdown or is stuffing the channel. They
said they spoke with most of the major distributors who said if
anything they could use more Compaq product not less. In fact all
said demand remains strong and inventories remain lean. Cpq no
longer incentives distributors on a "buy-in" Basis, all rebates are
pegged to sales out. Some analysts may be confusing lower prices
granted to resellers for product on hand when stock-out product
causes those resellers to miss predetermined sales-out goals. In
other words, in certain cases CPQ will provide a price break on
inventoried product if the reseller misses a sales-out goal due to
inadequate supply from Compaq on other configurations. Compaq
has caused several resellers to fall marginally short of revenue targets
based in inadequate supply of certain desktops and notebooks. They
feel that CPQ will post revenues above 9 billion and point to low
channel inventories and improved gross margins as a result of a
reasonably successful first full quarter of BTO implementation. It
remains their top pick in computers.

Another thought from the Yahoo Board.... NBC has been talking all day about foreigners, particularly
the Japanese, "repatriating" their money (selling U.S.
investments and taking their money home to prop up their
own ailing ecomony (banks and stock market)). If there was
a great deal of foreign money tied up in CPQ and if what
CNBC has been saying all day is true, then this could
explain why the large block sales the last several days. Just
a thought. Any comments?
