Is the story still in a niche? What is the true potential outside the niche? The company needs scale increases in revenues and though speed alone can't address certain sub-markets, they aren't growing fast enough to be meaningful to the company. The company can't sell because improvements in hardware put off software system re-orientation whether the decision to do so is justified or not. Would you instead bet on a seemingly unknown, unproven technology by cheaply extending over the intermediate run your investment in SQL Server? You go with the Gorilla because in times like these, you can't be sure the pipsqueek will even be around. There is one hope left. It is why I imagined this company would be a terrific grower. It is the ubiquity of cable modem and the need for DB management of video which is not addressable via hardware improvements in speed. Video needs a categorically different DB model and objects are the quintessential video primitive granule. Unfortunately, that is all still years downstream thanks to the fumbling bumbling fools at TCI.
