Kennedy, and Johnson too...

The point may be that in those days, journalists did not inquire into the sex lives of Presidents (or presidential candidates)..I think the sea change began with Gary Hart..

For whatever reason, the press actually didn't "know" about Kennedy. I'm not saying they couldn't have found out, but they chose not to look. Also, the standards for everyone were different then. Women knew their place, it was okay to beat your wife if she had done something to deserve it, like had dinner on the table late, blacks were still called coloreds, most children actually still showed some respect for teachers and police - in other words, things were different.
