Yahoo! (YHOO:Nasdaq) announced third-quarter earnings of 15 cents a share, beating the 21-analyst First Call forecast for 9 cents and the year-ago 2 cents. The leading Internet directory also said traffic to its Web sites rose to 144 million average page views per day in September from 115 million in June. The stock traded at 116 1/2 in after-hours trading after it was halted at 114 3/8. Traders told Reuters that Excite (XCIT:Nasdaq), Lycos (LCOS:Nasdaq) and Amazon.com (AMZN:Nasdaq) -- all of which got slaughtered today -- also were trading higher.

TheStreet.com took a closer look at Yahoo!'s earnings report in an update of a story published this morning. <<
