INTEL CORP, the world's largest maker of semiconductors, said late
Tuesday it is now shipping the fastest version of its Pentium II Xeon
processor targeted to the computer server and workstation market. Intel
said the Pentium II Xeon, running at speeds of 450 megahertz, will be
used in systems that run two processors, known as dual processor, or
two-way, workstations and servers. Computer makers such as Compaq
Computer Corp, Dell Computer Corp, Gateway Inc, Hewlett-Packard Co,
International Business Machines Corp and many others plan to ship
systems with the Xeon 450 megahertz later this month, Intel said.
