Yes, let's revisit VOD/ATI

VOD hit a high of 154 while ATI peaked at 65-5/8. Since then, the ratios have changed in VOD's favor, with VOD at 102 and ATI 45. Your logic is sound in that consolidation in the wireless industry is inevitable, but it won't happen in this volatile environment and the tape tells us this. Companies make acquisitions when their stocks are outrageously high (witness WCOM) and I don't see anyone moving against ATI just now. Although the principals of ATI and VOD may not be in direct discussions, we may be assured that the investment bankers are busy trying to arrange suitable marriages. After all, their fees depend on it.

The stock of both companies is down 33% from their highs, and still in free-fall. I don't intend giving back all my profit in the hope of a merger announcement As they say, Don't fight the tape.

When this irrational market stabilizes, I will be back into both ATI and VOD, both of which I consider outstanding long-term holdings.

Good luck,
R.S. Sheldon
