freeus, i uncovered my dell calls @the end of the day. All we are doing is going back and touching Sept 1st. low. today was a great day to buy leaps.

i doubt we go much lower. if we do go down to 40 something i would be loading up like crazy. eventhough Dell is overweighted in my portfolio.

when u were considering buying leaps i sent u a priv. msg.

Now there is no need to buy puts. i have dell puts for year 2k and that is just part of my regular insurance that I buy and i hope they all go worthless but it allows me keep the high % of dell that I have.

Laura tell me again about your profit on your put maybe I should try it or maybe if I am trying it it is too late???

My 2 cents: If we aren't at the bottom we're darn close. I think it's way too late to buy puts. When we're at these kind of dismal lows, sit tight, or buy LEAPS. This is like the dark days of June. It attracts all the night creatures, but the light will shine again. :-)

freeus... the put

When DELL was at ~60 on Monday, I bought slightly out-of-the money October 57.5 for 2 1/2. They went to 5 on Tuesday as Dell started dropping and I sold them at 4 near the end of the day. The buying and selling is just like calls (except the stock price is going the other way...down).

If you do this, my recommendation is only do it with one or two contracts... until you get the feeling and you haven't exposed much capital to risk; because DELL could reverse on a rally and the contract value could basically evaporate. Plus October expiration is next week; 10/17.

Normally you do not short a strong stock, you find a weak stock. But we're in very abnormal times... and almost all stocks are weak. [And we just don't know where the surprises are going to be.]
