Did you interpret my "slave" comment as name calling? That's not what I meant. I meant we are all becoming slaves. I said slaves and that's the word I meant to use.

Slavery is about power. The African slaves received something for their labor. The slave owner fed them, clothed them, and gave them shelter. The evil of the situation was that they were striped of the power to decide how the fruits of their labor were used.

We get things from the collective for our tax dollars too. Good things. As we give up more of the fruits of our labor to the collective, the balance of power shifts more to the collective and less for ourselves.

The African slaves were stripped of their power by force. We are giving it up voluntarily. The result is the same.

The RL some times inspires anger in me rather than fear.

That's interesting. It's probably because they're so boring. :-)

They also tend to insult one's intelligence with half-baked conspiracy theories about the powers that be--the media, the government, and business. Often they to cloak what decent ideas they have in a coat of fiery rhetoric that makes it unpalatable to anyone but themselves. But what I think makes people really irritated by them is their self-righteousness. I never trust anyone who actually believes in the absolute correctness of their ideas and actions, right or left.
