Yes it is an old game -- the first patents I can find are in the 60's, and the name of one inventor is mispelled on the patent (what a blast). Efficient parallel processing is something else, and I would be surprised if the floating-point unit on Merced doesn't create software hell. The fed's (DOE) are contracting for bigger and bigger machines -- I think NEC and IBM are tussling for the blue riband now.
