OT: >>>If you give credit to the CEO for successes, does he automatically get a free ride for the failures? The guy at the top takes responsibility for it all. That's our system. However, I would like to see that limited to job performance. Reagan promised to balance the budget, but he lied, and instead ran up a lot of bills. Bush promised no new taxes. He lied. They did have a lot of influence over these outcomes. Congress gave them what they asked for, pretty much. If it were not the case that they could have had a strong influence, they lied when they said they could, during the elections. Clinton/Gore promised to focus on the deficit and the unemployment rate. "It's the economy, stupid!" Remember that from 1992? They came through. The budget is balanced, because of decent management (the first cuts of federal employees ever), and because he embarrassed the congress into giving up some of the gravy train they customarily dole out (accounting for their hatred of the man.) Here's the important things he promised and delivered on: Budget: balanced. - Unemployment 4.x% Education budgets up. - SATs up. Police budgets up. Prison budgets up. Influential 3 strikes suport. - Crime down. Foreign policy - peaceful, and until this latest ridiculous embroglio, the US had regained recognition virtually worldwide as the leader by peaceful nations. They still do look to us for leadership, but we are confusing them, for sure, and we may lose that position. Promises kept, for the first time since Eisenhower. Now I also blame him for some things, and I lay those at his door too. Election financing funny business, temp workers, allowing Jesse Helms his choice of wackos for the supreme court, and much else. But he has delivered on his main promises. If you don't think that outcomes mean anything, stop voting for president. You don't hold them accountable enough. Chaz
