Hang in There (where is there?)--

Worldwide ATM Market Poised for Strong Growth, despite Asia Woes; According to New Research by Vertical Systems Group

DEDHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 8, 1998--Worldwide ATM
equipment and services markets will grow 51% to $3.6 billion combined
this year, despite severe economic troubles in Asia, one of ATM's key
potential markets. Moreover, the market for ATM equipment alone will
top $6.7 billion by 2001, a growth rate of 33% per year, according to
the "ATM & Frame Relay Industry Update", a newly released industry
report by Vertical Systems Group. ATM equipment sales in Asia will
slip to just $248 million this year, according to the study.

Based on independent research with worldwide enterprises,
equipment manufacturers and service providers, the study details nine
separate equipment segments and four services segments across five
geographic regions. It quantifies the markets for both frame relay and
ATM technologies in several product categories. 1998 worldwide
estimates in key segments are as follows:

ATM Equipment - $ 3.1 billion
ATM Services - $ 535 million
Frame Relay Equipment - $ 2.6 billion
Frame Relay Services - $ 6.3 billion
Leased Line Services - $ 23.8 billion

Based on worldwide market share, the leading manufacturers in
major equipment segments include Ascend, Cisco, Fore, Lucent,
Motorola, Newbridge and Nortel. Leading service providers include
AT&T, MCI WorldCom, Concert and others.

"Despite economic concerns in several regional markets, demand
remains high for new networking technology," said Rick Malone,
Principal at Vertical Systems Group. "The fastest growing product
segments are those related to Internet Service Providers, including
Core IP Switch/Routers and ISP ATM switches. The weakest segments in
the study include low speed leased lines and legacy data services."

Vertical Systems Group (http://www.verticalsystems.com) is a
leading market research and management consulting firm specializing in
the networking industry. Available immediately in hard cover or via a
web-based option, the "ATM & Frame Relay Industry Update" is offered
