Stephen,
I don't think that would work in Japan. In the US or Europe you could very easily make the assumption that a stronger currency would spark consumer demand but Japan seems to operate on different rules these days and their consumers don't respond the way western consumers do. Also a stronger currency generally strengthen demand for imports most, the Japanese need to strengthen consumer demand for domestic production as much as anything.
