Pro-Mahathir comments out of Context ?
Sorry.. but this does seem out of context. Personally, the power of hedge funds have, IMHO wildly exaggerated. They tend to be opportunists taking advantage of momentum and what they perceive to be inappropriate pricing of the existing risk-reward matrix. They go LONG too as well as short.

In any case, while Dr M may hv been right in some of his statements, the thing that started the collapse in the Malaysian market was really the Renong cover-up (remember UEM bought tremendous stake REnong and DID NOt report it ?)The power of hedge funds is wildly exaggerated. The massive sell-off by long term pension type funds subsequent to this event simply brought the market to its knees.

Similarly, the key to Creative's share price collapse in 1995 (was that the year ? lost track) was the PErCEPTION that management lied... that it made poor disclosure on its true exposure to the Cd-ROM drive market prior to the event. THe market has yet to really "forgive" this episode. Unfortunately, after all these years, Creative still remains relatively poor at managing its image with the investment community. THere is simply insufficient resources being spent here. Perhaps someone in this discussion page should volunteer to be a full time Director of INvestor relations - for a nominal salary of course which is tied to share price stability ...
