Some old-fashioned firms do hold to that old rule about not "mixing business and pleasure."

jbe, fwiw, Dell had one of the most stringent policies regarding this, and fired at least one VP that I know of for sexual harassment (it was a woman btw). It was pretty shocking for me after Oracle and SGI. So, I conclude these policies are purely company specific with gudelines set forth by the CEO. Dell was a very young company (but not as young as Oracle was when I started there).
