Okay david

lets say you have an email account with hotmail or yahoo

(and I dont use my real name there either)

is it possible to hack in and get the isp or other information that way...

or lets say you have a website ..but all with fake names....can an outside party get the isp from that...

it all seems to be key on the ISP issue..because otherwise there is no way..

but if it can be done with your ISP...then people need to be aware and take precautions because there are alot of nuts in the world

like not even put a yahoo email account on your profile..

I have seen some ISP's that have a section "Who's on-line." Thus revealing your IP address. If they did that with a cable modem connection and you don't have a firewall, it would be very easy for a hacker to get into your computer and do what he/she pleases.

Cable modems are very un-secure, unless you have a firewall.

Oh...one more area people fail to realize in privacy / security matters. Your trash. When you through out the trash, don't put Visa numbers (from statements, receipts) , passwords, etc, etc.... in there unless they are destroyed and cannot be read. That is one of the easiest ways for a hacker or bad guy to get information.

Everyone should take some simple security steps, but don't become paranoid.
