I just did some calculating--I had to work it out on paper because I couldn't see it intuitively--and I think your hint about waiting for lower lows may be correct. I don't think scaling out and in whether on the long or the short side works very well. I do have a order in to pull out about 10% (I hope less, after today) of my Prudent Bear, but really the thing to do is just to hold on for as long as the market seems greatly overvalued, and then get into cash and await signs of an ultimate bottom.
