And just one more followup to how options are handled for acquired companies. You posed the question to the WCOM thread, asking if anyone had MCI LEAPS, how they were handled after the merger.

For any acquired or merged company with options affected, CBOE issues a bulletin that explains how the conversion will work. In the case of MCI being acquired by Worldcom,

ON TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 15, 1998, each adjusted MCI
Communications Corporation contract will require the receipt or delivery of: (A) 124 shares of
WCOM Common Stock, plus (B) cash in lieu of 0.39 fractional share of WCOM Common
Stock

See URL cboe.com

for the complete bulletin. Each merger will have a bulletin defining the option adjustments on CBOE, in the Tools section (and usually the big ones will have a hot link on the main page, like Citibank today.)

Robert/All, re: AMAT LEAPs question
Thanks to everybody for researching this question; it does affect longer-term planning as I prepare to go long (though not yet). I rather like Jacob's (or Tito's) strategy with LEAPs, but I want to fully understand all the risks before hand... it's never been an issue with the shorter term options I trade.
