"trying to time Dell or the market is impossible"

I don't believe that is true. I know a lot of people claim that a a given, and you're entitled to your opinion, but I think the market is all about timing. The point is to buy low and sell high, not buy the bottom and sell the top. Of course there are times when it is easier to know what's going to happen than others. It is just untrue that all stock fluctuations are random. Take CD and SOC for example. It really wasn't that hard to predict that people would sell off their positions after the accounting irregularities were announced, was it? For a truly random event, you have to say (with a straight face) that it was equally possible that the stocks could have been greeted by buyers on that news. I just don't believe it.
