How does SI rank the threads?

The "hot list" is basically a measure of "unusual" posting volume. Sort of like that table in IBD, only without the distinction between big volume gainers and big volume losers.

Christian, it seems from a thread we ran up to a score of over 30000 in one day that it is number of posts relative to previous posting activity, and people that add bookmarks of the particular thread. The score resets near midnight eastern time.
