Jim, I'm looking at DELL's latest consumer systems mail catalog, and they do offer the new Celeron A (with L2 cache) system at $1499 with 17" monitor. All other desktop systems start at 400Mhz Pentium II and $1999.

I think you can configure lower end systems on their website, but, in general, they just refuse to enter the sub 1K fray. I would think in China they will have to offer sub 1K, or even lower.
