It is exactly the collapse of moral order such as we are witnessing today which led to the leftist dictatorships in Europe in the 1930's and ultimately to WWII. I read this sentence as implying that a "collapse of moral order" (however you define it... certainly subjective) was of key importance in the appointment/election of the leftist govts in Europe who ushered in WWII. Nope... I am refuting that. Leftist governments were primarily a result of poor, tremendously poor economic conditions and in the case of Germany fascism stemming from the deal imposed on Germany after WWI (and the leaders' effective interpretation of that situation as presented to the public). Im not saying there wasnt a "collapse in moral order". It sure was a collapse. But that was a result of the other conditions, not the cause. Yet another example of what terrible economic conditions can do to a people and how thankful we should all be here for our own economy. Of course the US has no choice to be global today, there is no such thing as "America first" isolationism in this decade. MH
