Some of their children end up in wonderful families. Some of the girls themselves move on to real relationships. Sadly, some will be middle aged odd-balls with nothing but memories to recount, but there are those that have made something of their lives.

I was not attempting to put myself up as a moral compass or to appear commendable. The "eighteen years of welfare" you mention are an unfortunate anomaly that gets trotted out all too often.
