Citibank denies interest in Brazilian banks

São Paulo, 21 - The president of the Brazilian subsidiary of US-based Citibank,
Alcides de Souza, denied yesterday allegations that the institution was willing to
purchase a Brazilian bank. The financial market has been inundated with rumors of
that kind lately. According to Souza, the bank is now dedicated to the merger with
Travelers Group as the integration has been recently approved by US authorities.
Citibank's strategy is exploiting the insurance sector. The Brazilian affiliate plans to
offer insurance, funds and credit cards for a public wider than that of its clients.

Armin, any opinion on UBB and the next few weeks. Assuming continued stability elsewhere, think the fiscal plan and bailout news might give it a push? Sure wish I bought some options on this thing when it hit 7 a couple weeks back. What the h*ll was wrong with me?

Thanks,
