Nikkei crumples to 13-year low as dollar withers
By Andrew Morse

TOKYO, Oct 9 (Reuters) - Tokyo stocks slid one percent to end Friday near a 13-year low as a withering dollar raised concerns big exporters would be forced to cut earnings estimates. The benchmark Nikkei average fell 146.09 points, or 1.12 percent, to 12,879.97 -- a low since December 11, 1985. Nikkei December futures fell 120 to 12,870.

Traders said the dollar's weakeness -- it fell over four yen at one point -- means big global companies like Sony Corp and Canon Inc will cut earnings forecasts originally calculated at rates of between 120 and 130 yen.
