So much for the channel stuffing baloney. This guy holds his cards close to his chest, but he CERTINLY LOOKED SMUG this morning! I saw the interview as VERY positive. I've watched this guy a number of times and he looked/acted very in charge today. CNBC posed the important questions and he fielded them confidently, positively, and, I'm sure, honestly. EP walks softly and carries a BIG STICK. My .06 guess MAY have been to stingy. LOOK OUT SHORTS! El

From now on let's get someone else interviewed on behalf of CPQ

In response to a question about the value of CPQ stock price EP:

(1) DID NOT ANSWER
(2) AVOIDED THE QUESTION
(3) BLEW AN OPPORTUNITY

EP said the market is taking a wait-and-see attitude and then didn't say something like (1) THEY'll see, (2) CPQ is comfortable with concensus.

The only mildly positive statements EP made was (1) DEC integration progressing (yet NOT finished), (2) CPQ benefiting from Asian financial situation because of lower material&labor costs (market demand is flat to down), (3) CPQ is NOT offering buy-in deals to retailers, (4) Inventories are at their lowest levels in CPQ history, (5) BTO & CTO & Direct Selling are moving forward, (6) 3rd & 4th qtrs see increased demands for CPQ.

EP did not blow the interview nor did he say anyhting negative but he didn't use it for any benefit either.

Michael

EP said the Asian problem was having a net positive effect on Compaq through reduced costs.

Also he was bluntly asked by Kernan if the Intel and AMD upside was an indication of better performance for Compaq. I was expecting an "I can't comment due to quite time" type response but EP was quite candid and indicated we should see a strong second half.

On the whole I think it was extremely positive.

Make my guess for the pool .11
