Jeez, Rick, you sure know how to suck up to a guy!

I assume your categorizing of descriptors I have hurled at you is correct.

This means exactly two dozen different expressions have come out of me - each consistently aimed at communicating same essential fact.

I am floored. My ego is tripping. Such targeted flexibility and dexterity make me pride pound passionately.

I am being totally honest here. My self-esteem has been given a shot, a pick-up - thanks to you. Never thought I had it in me. Wow. Golly. Huzzah. Thankyou. Thankyou. Thankyou. George

George only does this to people he likes. On a volume basis, he really likes you. :-)

About word vs. other art:
I am more "auditory" than "visual". Thus Stravinsky does more to reach my mystic kernel than, say, Van Gogh. But above all I am "verbal". Words, and the breathtaking tableaux they can fill out, are very special to me.
Others react differently - so perhaps I may be allowed to conclude that there is an awful lot of subjective response - "taste" - even in matters of spirit.
Alex

<<Music, dance, painting, and architecture (I believe this was my original set) predate written forms of art (literature, poetry,>>

Not sure I agree with that one. Literature is a direct outgrowth of storytelling, and the telling of tales - emotional, instructional, spiritual, entertaining, and otherwise - is surely one of the oldest art forms known to humans. I don't think writing it down changes much. While I do words for a living, I'm also reasonably well grounded in a number of other crafts (still don't think they become art until the person practicing them becomes an artist). And I would still maintain that the distinction you draw between the verbal and non-verbal exists mainly in your own perceptions.

My comment about George's point refers to the somewhat pretentious tone which occasionally, and probably unintentionally, finds its way into your posts. George reacts strongly to these things. He's called me pompous and autocratic (with some justification), so you're in good company. Assuming Alex's theorem to be correct, he just like you better.

You should feel flattered, Rick. If George IGNORED you, then that would mean he didn't think much of you.

Rick: I have read only a few of the posts relating to whatever it is y'all are talking about, I say "whatever" because I'm not real sure what it is. However, I respond to "something" in this post of yours that makes sense to me. The image of "justice" as portrayed by the woman, blindfolded and holding a double-edged sword, or by the scales in balance, speak to us about the essence of "justice" in a way that mere words often fails to do. But I'm one of those that is always saying "just hush and show me a picture."
