Michelle - <<Somewhat OT>> I would say that in the case of Germany in WWII it was a severe economic situation that allowed the people to be led into a moral decline by a charismatic and ruthless figure. A scapegoat was used (the jews), and the threat of the leftists (Russia) was dunned into the people so much that after a long enough period of propaganda, morals (those relative to one's fellow man) were thrown out the window.

Hello Michelle,

I don't think it was capitalism per se that led to fascism but that particular crisis in capitalism after WWI.

You make a really good point that to which I would like to add: Generally those who believe moral decline causes economic decline are fascists or ultra-nationalists.
