Chromatic started out doing a "does everything board", but has scrapped the hardware and become a software shop. I think their forte is programming DSP's. Someone I work with had a first generation Chromatic card. Mediocre everything. An excellent case for the argument that massive integration is doomed. I'm not sure what Chromatic has that ATI wants. They're certainly not reknowned for anything. As far as ATI going for the set-top, you really have to have a lot of clout to pull off a new platform. If you can't get content developers to support it in a big way you're screwed from the get-go.
