According to Steve Porter the MXi was redesigned to run less instructions per clock cycle and run at higher clock cycles.
Personally I don't see the PR rating as the biggest problem with the
MII...the biggest problems IMHO have been...
1. IBM using old processes.
2. IBM deal too much in favor of IBM
3. die size too large due to .25u process.
4. Always laggig in speed grades because of lag time not having
own FAB.
5. weak FPU...and poor perception of the chip due to it.
6. Development of new chips too darn slow.
Supposedly these will all be fixed by the time the Mxi rolls out.
