Zurdo,

I think shorting any company in this market has merit, however you seem to indicate that - all else being equal - CPQ is a good short. IMO you aren't looking close enough at that company. Granted they've had issues but they are well positioned in the PC, and mini-computer market with good products. Channels are supsect and perhaps not a perfect delivery model but there is a balance which they are closer to understanding than is DELL given that DELL is 100% direct. Furthermore CPQ's DEC purchase was an excellent move which will continue to allow them to build their enterprise oriented mini-computer business. I woulnd't be poo-pooing CPQ.

Compaq has great management. There can be no arguing this matter. You don't take a 2 billion company in 1991 and transform it into a $40 billion with bad management. Time after time Compaq has reinvented itself to overcome the challenges of the market place. Compaq is probably near completing transformation three/four with the DEC merger.

As for the CFO...he never said "comfortable." He said he had to wait and see the coming data for Feb and March.

Let us know when you short - I would be interested in what indicators you would look for.
