Would the Merc ever trust their real business to Netware? Of course not. Netware is a toy and since file and print are not mission critical not a great deal of risk using it for that. Across town, the Chicago Stock Exchange standardized its trading systems on Windows NT4.

Excerpts...

In September 1997, the Chicago Stock Exchange became the first U.S. exchange to standardize its trading systems on Microsoft® Windows NT® 4.0, a decision severely tested when the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 554 points during the week of Oct. 27. The new system was able to flawlessly handle the record volume with capacity to spare, demonstrating that Windows NT would serve them well now and in the future. Says Steve Randich, CIO of the Chicago Stock Exchange, "We believe the Windows NT OS is exceedingly stable and reliable - we've proven that."

"We have found our [Windows] NT-based trading applications to be stable and scalable at a time when the Exchange is experiencing record growth." John Kerin Vice president of Application Development, Chicago Stock Exchange
