zurdo -
At one time I believed very strongly in Compaq and its management.. It cost me about $300,000
Your timing must have been very bad. I have been buying CPQ for over 6 years and never had any part of it underwater for more than a few weeks.

A good friend of mine lost pretty much everything he had when he sold CPQ and put it all on Dell at the end of 1992, he was under water for nearly 3 years. Bad timing, if he had just waited 6 months he would have made millions, since CPQ continued up and Dell started back up in summer 1993 but at a new base.

Don't presume to tell me CPQ is even remotely the quality of company Dell is
If you have followed this thread, you should know that CPQ is much stronger than Dell in many key areas, including the enterprise market, and there is no possibility Dell will overtake them in overall computer sales, especially in the enterprise. CPQ has more than 8 times Dell's sales in that space and Dell is not closing the gap. But Dell does not have to do that, Dell's strengths are elsewhere, in their business model, in their cash management, in their tight executive structure, and in their focus on excellence of execution.

I don't know for sure what you mean by 'quality' but in general I agree that Dell is at or near the top on almost any quality measure you can apply to them. The same is not true of CPQ, but CPQ is a very strong and well managed company and will continue to be a great investment.

You should shake off that emotion and think with your wallet.
