Geez, This thread is so defensive. I thought this was a simple little discussion and everyone has their hackles up. Anyway, I'll leave this discussion with this last thought.

You lose only when you sell. Granted if you move money that isn't growing into an investment that is you're better off...but make no mistake you only lose when you sell.

As for that last comment about doing better in a passbook over the last 18 months.

I think that indeed the stock has been somewhat flat for the past 12 months, but note that I've seen this before in a number of other companies that had a bad quarter... Many times these companies come back in spades. So, holding for a year is still short term thinking. If your a short term trader than I suppose this view is fine, but I'm a holder of strong companies that I believe will do well in the long haul. I own DELL..but I own CPQ as well. I think they'll both do well.
